Final Event of 2016
Cigar Studio launched Espinosa into Canada at its final event of 2016 on Nov 29. 80 guests enjoyed lots of Christmas cheer, massive portions of the best beef around, and 3 Espinosa cigars. Many thanks to Fernando @ Espinosa for the support, and to John and his Team for turning his cabana into a real live steakhouse. But the night would not have been what it was without the help of Joe, Justin and Helen.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Everyone.
What a 3 way on October 5 with the 2013 and 2014 Canadian Brewery of the year, Crown and Anchor BBQ and suppliers STG, PTI and GVA. 55 Cigar Studio customers enjoyed 3 cigars, 3 beers by GLB, some of the best BBQ we have ever eaten and loads of prizes. Thanks to Peter and his Team @GLB, Stewart at Crown and Anchor and Sal, Mike and Rob. Ein Prosit!!!
What an evening on August 9! 200 customers/guests/friends and families enjoyed 3 hours throughout the Toronto Harbor. Cigars and stars all night long and the bars were kept very busy. Special prop to Sarah and Josh at Cigar Bodega for their hard work in making it a really special event.
20th Anniversary Gala
Our 20th Anniversary Dinner went off without a hitch. 120 guests enjoyed 8 cigars including several that have won Cigar of the Year honors. Manny’s staff treated us like gold, and the food was spectacular. Thanks to Alec Bradley Canada, House of Horvath, Havana House, Brigham and STG for their help and support. And I raise a glass of Merlot to MAM Group for donating all the wine for the evening. A wonderful night!
Habanos Festival 2016 (aka Alex in Havana)
The annual Habanos Festival took place Feb 29 to March. While easy to think this year’s Festival was all about the 50th Anniversary of the Cohiba brand, we like to think it was all about Alex’x first visit to Havana. Typically thousands of cigar shop owners and visitors enjoy world class entertainment and cigars, and Cuban class food and beverage. This year was no diiferent. We sent Alex to as many events as he could wake up for, including how to roll a cigar, taught by a master roller from the Cohiba factory. The factory itself is a museum to this famous brand. Alex hung out with many of the other Canadian tobacconists who always enjoy themselves and are recognized as being leaders in Cuban cigar product knowledge. Might be tough to keep Alex away from future festivals.
Winter Cigar Dinner
The first of several as we celebrate 20 years in business! Given the strong relationship we have had with the Bondi family for 20 years, it was only natural that we host our first dinner with Alec Bradley Canada. 32 customers enjoyed 3 superb courses and wine wrapped around 4 Alec Bradley cigars including the delicious Post Embargo Robusto. Thanks to Joe and Justin at Alec Bradley Canada and Manny and his staff for really looking after us. Stay tuned.
The week of January 25 saw a return visit to Nicaragua where we hung out in Managua and Estili. The latter is quickly becoming the new tobacco capital of Central America. The amount and quality of new hybrid variations of leaf growing there is ridiculous, especially when you think that less than 20 years ago the country was just pulling itself out of years of civil war. Our host once again was AJ Fernandez. AJ is both a total vertical manufacturer – New World, San Lotano, Enclave are 100% his brands/his tobacco etc – but he also supplies tobacco to the likes of Padron, Rocky Patel and Davidoff. AJ has football field size storage facilities for millions of pounds of tobacco. He began making our the Cigar Studio Private Label Nicaraguan Maduro in 2013 with a blend and shape unique to our store. Today those cigars represent our # 1 selling brand in the shop, and this year AJ is making our 20th Anniversary cigars. Special thanks to Erick, AJ’s new right hand man in Estili, and Sal and Ang @ PTI, exclusive distributors AJ’s cigars in Canada.
