What is Beetle?
The cigar beetle, scientifically known as Lasioderma serricorne, is a small insect that can cause significant damage to cigars. These beetles lay eggs on the tobacco leaves, and when the larvae hatch, they bore small holes through the cigars, compromising their quality and flavor. Cigar beetles thrive in warm, humid environments, which makes proper storage and temperature control essential to prevent infestations. To avoid cigar beetle damage, cigars should be stored in a humidor with a temperature below 70°F and a relative humidity of 65-70%. If an infestation occurs, freezing the cigars for a few days can effectively eliminate the beetles without harming the cigars.
