What is Bloom?

Bloom, also known as plume, is a fine white powder that can develop on the surface of a cigar when it is stored under ideal conditions. This natural occurrence is caused by the oils in the tobacco slowly rising to the surface of the wrapper leaf as the cigar ages. Bloom is a sign that the cigar is aging well and that the tobacco is rich in natural oils. Bloom should not be confused with mold, which is typically green or blue and fuzzy in appearance. While bloom can be gently wiped away, it is often left intact by cigar enthusiasts as it indicates the cigar's quality and proper storage.
